Talking With… explores themes of female identity, personal struggles, and the complexities of life through a series of poignant monologues delivered by 11 different women. The play combines humor and emotional depth, addressing a range of issues such as loss, courage, resilience, misogyny, control, loneliness, evangelism, and the search for meaning in one’s life.
The show features a series of engaging monologues that allows each character to express their own unique story and individuality. Jane Martin‘s writing style creates a rich tapestry of diverse female experiences. Her ability to blend humor and depth serves to enhance the audience’s connection to the characters. Since the play’s New York City premiere in 1982, Talking With… has been performed around the world.
Director Kelly Wadlegger selected this play to highlight the voices and struggles of women, and because the topics in these monologues are very relevant in today’s society.
This production of Talking With… contains mature themes and strong language, including brief use of racial and other slurs, references to trauma, emotional distress, animal harm, pregnancy, and substance use, and may not be suitable for all audiences.
